PCGS Vs. NGC?

I'm leaning on sending in my 2 Buffalo Proofs to be graded. I've never done anything like that before. What company do you prefer PCGS or NGC? Should I send in the packaging with them or just the proofs?

If you are set on doing this then PCGS is the top of the industry.

PCGS tends to be the more marketable grading service, while NGC comes in a close second. PCGS is also a little more strict with their designations in upper mint-state grades. A good example is MS-70, of which you will see multiples in NGC plastic than you will in PCGS holders.

PCGS would be my first pick based on experience. The PCGS holders are a little more "classy" too IMO.

Send the entire packaging when you send your coins. DON'T remove them from the holders they come from via the U.S. Mint. You risk damaging the very soft .9999 gold if they are removed and handled in any manner.

Go with PCGS. AuNuggets is correct! I purchased a NGC certified PF-70 silver quarter at a good price for the grade, and I was pleased. HOwever, when I received the coin, I was surprised it got the grade. The problem may be the holder, but I would not have given a grade higher than ms-69 and probably ms-68.

I went online to NGC to view their grading charts. Either the mint has gotten tremendously better with their minting quality or NGC has loosened their standards. Probably a little of the minting is better, but NGC has reduced their standards to meet demand for proof coins. The numbers do not lie. A 1999 pf70 Delaware 184 coins but 3852 proof 70 coins for 2006 Colorad silver proof.

When it comes to proof 68-69-70, who can tell a perceptable difference? Especially on all this modern post 1980 swill??? Save your grading fees, all the new proof stuff out there is pf 68,69-70...the greater fool theory is the only difference...glta

There is really no point in grading modern coins (especially proofs) unless you are trying to make $$$ off people less knowledgeable than yourself.
